A 17th cent. cleric who was a conservative in theology but a Russian expansionist in politics. He was a supporter of Tsar Per the Great and became the first Bishop of Voronzeh. He died in 1703 and was canonized in 1832 after reported miracles occurred following prayers of intercession. As a result his popularity increased considerably during the century.
